Advanced REAC-NPO and REAC-NPPO Neurobiological Modulation treatments in the management of anxiety, depression and stress.

Introduction

Depression, anxiety and stress are a symptomatic triad extremely widespread in contemporary society, capable of affecting both healthy subjects at particular stages of life and patients suffering from several concomitant diseases.. These disorders of mood, cognitive and neurovegetative function often result in marked psychosocial deterioration and significant disability.. In many cases, conventional therapeutic responses show limits of efficacy, especially when clinical pictures have refractory components or manifestations closely related to environmental stressors..

In the field of neuroscience and non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, research is constantly focused on identifying state-of-the-art therapeutic strategies able to optimise patients’ quality of life. This is the context for REAC technology (Radio Electric Asymmetric Conveyer), a technology platform designed for neurobiological and biological modulation.

Source analysis: the design of the clinical study

An important scientific study published in the international peer-reviewed journal Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment assessed the efficacy of specific REAC neuromodulation protocols in the simultaneous treatment of depression, anxiety and stress.

As a standardised measurement tool, the research used the psychometric scale DASS-42 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-42 items), a self-assessment questionnaire that independently and simultaneously quantifies the severity of the three negative emotional states.

Methodology and monitored population

The study design compared two populations matched for sex and age, assessed about 3 months apart:

  • Treated Group (N = 182): Composed of 72 men and 110 women (average age 52.99 ± 16.26 years) who had clinical positivity to depression, anxiety and stress traits at the first administration of the DASS-42 test. Patients underwent two specific REAC protocols in succession.
  • Untreated Control Group (N = 182): Composed of 70 men and 112 women (average age 47.47 ± 14.52 years) randomly selected by software from a pool of about 6,000 subjects who had performed the online test twice, with a time interval comparable to that of the treated group.

Applied Neurobiological Modulation Protocols

The study group received two types of sequential treatment administered with the medical device model BENE Mod 110 (produced by ASMED, Florence, Italy):

  1. Neuropostural Optimization (NPO): It consists of a single administration lasting 250 milliseconds delivered on a specific area of the auricle. The NPO aims to optimise neurotransmission throughout the whole brain.
  2. Neuropsychophysical Optimization (NPPO): It involves a treatment cycle of 18 sessions, each lasting about 3 seconds, also administered to specific areas of the auricle. The aim of this protocol is to improve the individual coping (adaptation) capacity in the face of environmental stressors.

Observed results

The statistical analysis of the data, performed by Wilcoxon and Sign tests, detected highly significant changes (P< 0.05) exclusively in the REAC treatment group.

At baseline, the treated group showed mean levels corresponding to mild severity for depression and anxiety, and moderate severity for stress. At the second assessment, about 3 months later, the mean scores had settled within the range of clinical normality:

Analysed cluster (Treated Group) Average Pre-Treatment Score Average Post-Treatment Score (3 months) Clinical Status Reached
Depression 14.253 (Mild) 7,593 Normal
Anxiety 11.423 (Mild) 5,319 Normal
Stress 17.577 (Moderate) 9,615 Normal

By contrast, in the untreated control group there were no clinically or statistically relevant changes between the first and second measurement (mean depression values went from 12.648 to 12.868; anxiety from 11.786 to 10.412; stress from 16.582 to 15.934).

Population distribution graphs (Gaussian curves) indicate a marked shift of treated patients towards the lowest levels of severity and a progressive concentration in the ranges of psychometric normality..

Clinical Implications and Mechanism of Action of ASMED Technology

Unlike other methods of transcranial stimulation operating on brain tissue — such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) — REAC technology is not based on the generation of localised electrical hyper- or hypo-polarisation phenomena..

Peculiarities of the REAC Mechanism

  • Asymmetric interaction: Through an asymmetric conveying probe (Asymmetric Conveyer Probe), the very-low-intensity radioelectric emission (power below 1 mW) interacts with the body’s electrical charges.
  • Optimization of Cellular Polarity: The main target is the restoration of the correct current flows at the cellular level, optimizing the polarity of the membrane that is fundamental for the correct transmission of interneuronal signals.
  • Functional Reorchestration: The treatment has no biological depth limits and induces functional reorchestration involving the entire brain mass, promoting more economical and more efficient neurological responses.

Safety Profile Note

The REAC-NPO and REAC-NPPO protocols showed a high safety profile. The therapeutic sessions proved to be well tolerated by patients, with minimal discomfort and a total absence of undesirable side effects or adverse reactions recorded in clinical practice. Extremely fast administration times facilitate the integration of these protocols into normal outpatient activities.

As an intrinsic limit of the method compared to home pharmacological treatments, it should be noted that REAC protocols cannot be self-administered by the patient and require the use of professional devices managed by qualified medical personnel..

Conclusions and disclaimer

The clinical results analyzed confirm that the Neurobiological Modulation treatments REAC-NPO and REAC-NPPO represent efficient and clinically tested tools for the therapeutic management of manifestations related to stress, anxiety and depression. Thanks to the speed of execution and the absence of systemic side effects, this technology is a valuable support for neuropsychophysical optimisation projects and for the overall improvement of the patient’s quality of life.
